Bible lesson
This lesson is about finding Christ if we would ever lose Him. The text is Song of Songs 3:1 and is inspired by a Charles Spurgeon writing.
Song of Songs 3:1
"I sought him, but I found him not."
Do we ever know where we may have lost the company of Christ, and we will find that the most likely place to find Him is where we left Him. Have we lost Christ in the closet by not praying enough? Then it is there we must seek and find Him. Did we lose Christ by sin? We will surely find Christ in no other way but by the giving up of the sin, and seeking by the Holy Spirit and getting rid of the sin that caused our issues. Did we lose Christ by neglecting the Scriptures by not reading our Bible? We must then find Christ in the Scriptures. It is a true proverb, "Look for a thing where you dropped it, it is there." So we have to look for Christ where we lost Him, for He has not gone away. But it is hard work to go back for Christ It takes effort and time. A very smart person once said that the pilgrim found the piece of the road back to the place where he lost his traveling belongings was the hardest he had ever travelled. Twenty miles onward is easier than to go one mile back for things we may have lost or left behind.
We must take care, then, that when we find our Master, to continue to stay very close to Him. But how could we have ever lost Him? We would have thought that we could never have parted with such a precious friend as Jesus, whose presence is so sweet, whose words are so comforting, and whose company is so dear to us! How is it that we did not watch Him every moment for fear of losing sight of Him? Yet, since we may have let Him go, what a mercy that we are permitted to continue in seeking Him, even though we may mournfully groan, "O that I knew where I might find Him!" We have to go on seeking Jesus, for it is dangerous to navigate this world without the Lord. Without Christ we are like a flock of sheep without its shepherd; like a tree without water at its roots; like a leaf in a big storm-not bound to the tree of life. With our whole heart we have to continue to seek Him, and we can be sure that we will find Him: only we have to be sure to give our all to the search, and it is certain, that we will discover Him to our complete joy and gladness.
